Our History

The history of Wealdsmere from Shire to Barony

The Barony of Wealdsmere began as a shire of the Kingdom of the West in the Principality of An Tir in 1978, or as recorded in the SCA, Anno Societatus (A.S.) XIII. We seceded from the Kingdom of the West along with the rest of An Tir when it became a Kingdom in its own right in January A.S. XVI (1982). Wealdsmere continued to grow, and in July A.S. XXX (1995).  Wealdsmere became a Barony at the coronation of Hwolf Einarsson and Luise die Daverhaft von dem Dammerungstal. It was an event known throughout An Tir as July Toronation (usually July Coronation) because a tornado actually touched ground near the event site, Farragut State Park in Northern Idaho, where we fought against the gale force winds and pouring rain most valiantly!

Our first Baron and Baroness were Balthasar the Quiet and Olivia Visconti. They held the lands of Wealdsmere for the crown of An Tir from A.S. XXX to A.S. XXXIII (1995 to 1998).

When they stepped down, Brandt Sturrock and Kelta Bri Leith took the reins as Wealdsmere’s second Baron and Ban Bheron (Irish Gaelic for Baroness).

In A.S. XXXIX (2004), Their Excellencies Brandt and Kelta passed the coronets to HL Fergus Sturrock and HL Renata von Silverhart.

Our fourth Baron and Baroness, Caieth of Umber and Araviere Isobelle Magdaleine de St. Etienne, accepted the barony in A.S. XLII (2007).

In A.S. XLVII (2012), Sir Hanefr Lars Gunnarrson and Her Excellency Kara Bjornsdottir, the fifth Baron and Baroness, stepped forward to hold these lands for the Sable Throne of An Tir.

In A.S. LII (2017) the sixth Baron and Baroness,  Sir Osrik Rolfson, and Her Excellency Sigrun Osrikswife, accepted the responsibility and joy of caring for the barony.

In the Autumn of A.S. LV (2020) Master Michael of Lancaster, OD and HL Arnora Grimsdottir accepted Their Majesties Christian and Helene’s charge as the 7th coronets of Their lands in Wealdsmere.
